claude doctor prints read-only installation and settings diagnostics without starting a session: install health, the result of the last auto-update attempt, settings-file validation errors, and warnings with suggested fixes. The in-session equivalent is the /doctor slash command (alias /checkup). It never changes anything, so it is safe to run anytime.
