Rewrite text to change its tone or reading level

writing & editing

// what it does

Paste text and tell ChatGPT the new register — more formal, friendlier, simpler, or a specific reading level — and it rewrites while keeping the meaning. Naming a concrete target ("for a 12-year-old," "for a skeptical CFO") works better than vague words like "better." In Canvas, the Adjust length and Change reading level sliders do this without retyping the prompt.

// prompt

> Rewrite the paragraph below to be simpler and warmer, at about an 8th-grade reading level, same meaning: [paste text]
> Rewrite this in a confident, formal tone for an executive audience, under 150 words: [paste text]

// gotcha

A rewrite can quietly change facts or drop caveats while chasing a tone. Re-read the output against the original for anything that shifted, especially numbers, hedges, and commitments.
