Projects are workspaces that bundle related chats, uploaded reference files, and project-specific instructions in one place, so ChatGPT stays on-topic across a long effort. Create one with New project in the sidebar; add files and set instructions from the project's three-dot menu > Project settings. Available on all plans; business plans can share projects with teammates.

Project instructions override your global custom instructions inside that project, which can surprise you when a project behaves differently from your other chats. Also, the Google Drive app does not pre-sync inside a project — it can search files but will not retrieve synced content in advance.
